Overview

For my User Experience class, I was given a project to redesign the official tourism website for a fictional island called Taniti. The goal of the redesign was to improve the overall user experience by making the site more modern, userfriendly, and informative for potential visitors. The class provided user data and feedback to help guide design decisions throughout the project.

Research & Data Analysis

The project began with reviewing a dataset collected by “Taniti Tourism.” The spreadsheet included visitor demographics, travel habits, and feedback about the existing site. This was my first experience using quantitative data to make design decisions. I analyzed the information to identify common pain points. Such as confusing navigation, outdated visuals, and a lack of clear travel information and used those insights to guide the redesign process. In addition to the dataset I did an analysis of other tropical islands websites to see to see areas to mimic or correct.

User Persona

Based on the research, I developed a user persona to represent the island’s primary target audience. The persona helped humanize the data and kept the design process focused on the user’s needs.

Creating this persona gave me a clear direction and helped me design with empathy, ensuring that each decision supported a smoother and more enjoyable user experience.

Design & Prototyping

Using the data and persona as guides, I created wireframes and a working prototype of the redesigned Taniti website. The new layout emphasized simplicity, clarity, and visual appeal. Key features included:

  • Streamlined navigation to quickly access lodging, dining, and attractions.

  • A clean, modern design that reflects the island’s natural beauty.

  • Clear calls-to-action for booking and planning travel.

Client Schedule & Deliverables

As part of the project, I also developed a project schedule outlining deadlines, milestones, and deliverables for the “client.” This schedule demonstrated how UX projects can stay on track through proper planning and communication, covering stages like research, ideation, design, testing, and handoff.
